For the past 35 years, Pat has been in the privileged position of observing the commercial construction industry in Texas in all of its dimensions: Its growth, its challenges and its changes. By his experiences and life-stage, he has become a passionate industry historian. Especially about the exceptional people and their companies that build such amazing projects. Pat served as the chief staff executive of the Houston Chapter, Associated General Contractors of America for over 21 years. And, for the past 14 years as a strategy and leadership consultant in his own firm, Kiley Advisors, which was acquired by industry leader, FMI, in 2017. He remains a Managing Director at FMI. He has been recognized for his work for the contractors and the industry by the Houston AGC with their two highest honors, The Master Builder Award and Honorary Life Membership. The members also created a scholarship fund in his honor, The Patrick J Kiley Excellence in Leadership Scholarship. The Construction Science Department at Texas A & M has also inducted him into their Contractor Hall of Fame. Pat has written extensively throughout his career, and currently writes a monthly article for FMI’s Houston Newsletter and a regular blog, “History and Heroes”, for ConstructionCitizen.com In his roles, he has written many tributes and obituaries about the men and women of the industry. He has also completed three histories of construction companies. One of his newsletter columns, “Reverence to the Crafts”, was reproduced by ENR Magazine. He is a frequent speaker at industry and company meetings. His topic; market trends, leadership traits, industry issues and, Increasingly, the industry’s history and heroes.
