Description:

The iconic Main Tower on the UT Austin campus had not received a significant renovation for many years. To alleviate code, life safety, hazardous material and infrastructure issues, UT Austin tapped OFPC to lead a design-build approach on the renovation of the Tower and three adjacent buildings (Parlin, Calhoun and Homer Rainey. The project had all of the complexities expected including working in an occupied area, unreliable as-built information and hazardous materials. The design-build team partnered to exceed expectations on this most important project.

LEARNING POINTS:

  1. Learn how a “building preservation hierarchy” process was used during the planning and design of this project.
  2. Understand how the integration of new systems into an iconic landmark structure supported a “Leave no Trace” philosophy.
  3. Hear what it takes to build a highly-functioning design-build team.
  4. Learn the positives, challenges, and lessons-learned from the project team that was engaged from the design, construction, and Owner sides.
