More information about the NEW Parkland

About Parkland Hospital:

Parkland Health & Hospital System first opened its doors in 1894 and is now one of the largest public hospital systems in the country, licensed for 861 adult patient beds and 107 neonatal patient beds and more than 10,000 employees. The hospital averages more than 1 million patient visits annually. Services include a Level I Trauma Center, the second largest civilian burn center in the U.S. and a Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. The system also includes 20 community-based clinics, 12 school-based clinics and numerous outreach and education programs. Parkland is the primary teaching hospital for the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center.

The nearly 2 million-square-foot Parkland hospital will replace the existing 55-year-old facility, and, when complete, will be the largest public hospital building in the nation built in one phase. The $1.27 billion project will include a new, 862-bed hospital, as well as a separate clinic building, parking structures and other support facilities.

Talking Points:

1.  Program priorities and impacts on the design of the new campus.

2.  The size of the new campus, as compared to the current campus.

3.  Lessons learned during design and construction of the New Parkland Campus project.

4.  Some of the “tools” used in the design and  construction of the new campus.
